USAA & NFL Salute to Service

Project goals

  • As the official military appreciation sponsor of the NFL, USAA challenged us to find a unique way to salute every current and former service member

  • Honor, empower, and connect service members, veterans, and their families

  • Celebrate service members with uncompromising authenticity—from tone of voice to props and wardrobe

Solution

We translated the tradition and grandeur of an NFL stadium Flyover following the National Anthem from physical to digital in the world’s first virtual flyover—an interactive video experience using Google Street View, Google Earth, generative voice technology, and real-time CGI rendering—that generates a custom short film culminating with six F-15 jets flying directly over the home of the viewer.

My role

  • Brainstormed concepts in partnership with creative director

  • Developed social media content strategy and wrote copy to support launch

  • Developed user flows

  • Wrote UX copy for digital experience

  • Attend legal reviews and incorporated feedback

  • Collaborated with: creative director, associate creative director, art director(s), motion designer, social strategists, USAA stakeholders, and NFL partnership team

Results

  • 143 million impressions and 114K site visits

  • 2,000+ unique video salutes with over 900 social shares

  • Finalist: The Webby Awards
